Foreign Ministry affirms commitment to battling climate change

Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said on Tuesday that climate change is a common challenge to all mankind and all members of the international community should join hands in cooperation and make their own contributions.
"We felt regret the US started the formal process to exit from the Paris Agreement," Geng said at a regular news conference in Beijing.
Geng said China hopes the US side can be more responsible and make more contribution to multilateral cooperation, instead of bringing more negative factors.
As the largest developing country, China always firmly upholds multilateralism, supports the Paris Agreement, actively undertakes international responsibilities in accordance with its own development stage and conditions and adopts practical policies and actions to address climate change, he said.
According to the spokesman, China will continue all work that fights climate change, actively participate in related multilateral processes, and firmly safeguard global governance process.
"China is willing to work with all parties of the international community to actively push forward the effective implementation of the Paris Agreement and promote the green, low-carbon and sustainable development of the world," he said.
