Tongchuan police crack down on gang crimes

Police in Tongchuan city, Shaanxi province in Northwest China, have busted 25 mafia-style groups since a major campaign against gang crime was launched nationwide in 2018, according to official figures released on Tuesday.
Guo Xiping, deputy secretary of the Political and Legal Committee of Tongchuan Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and director of the city's Anti-Crime Office, said that Tongchuan has conscientiously implemented the important instructions for cracking down on gang crime since the campaign against it was lunched and has made new progress in promoting enforcement throughout the city.
"A total of 353 criminal cases have been cracked, 665 people involved in criminal cases have been arrested, and property valued at 182.8 million($25.83 million) involved in criminal cases has been seized and frozen," Guo said at a press conference held on Tuesday in the city.

Guo said that Tongchuan police at all levels concentrated their superior forces, speeded up the handling of cases under investigation, strengthened the arrest of fugitives and continued to dig into the hidden dark forces.
"And we kept the arrest of the people involved in the case in step with the investigation of the property involved in the case, and after thorough investigation seized the assets involved," Guo said.
Tongchuan police also cooperated with the procuratorial organ to hold trials and talks with the key members of the crime gangs, digging deep into any leads regarding officials who sheltered them.
According to Guo, up to now, the city has followed 125 leads about corruption and "shelter" issues, 27 of which have been closed with 48 officials being punished.
Since this year, the city's special fight against crime has achieved definite results, effectively improving the city's social security and effectively promoting its overall social stability, Guo concluded.
