China firmly opposes US interference in China's internal affairs, a Chinese mainland spokesperson said Wednesday.

Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson with the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks at a press conference in response to the so-called Pacific Island Dialogue in Taiwan, which is attended by Sandra Oudkirk, US Department of State Senior Official for APEC and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.

"We firmly oppose any countries that have diplomatic relations with us to engage in official contacts with the region of Taiwan in any form," the spokesperson stressed.

He added that the reason why the Democratic Progressive Party administration has convened such a meeting is to cover up the failure of its cross-Strait policy and its predicament in foreign affairs.

"A small trick to cheat some votes," he added.
