In Rome, tree stumps are given a new lease on life as 22-year old sculptor Andrea Gandini carves faces on them.
The capital has many diseased trees cut down to stumps due to lack of upkeep. Gandini wanted to elicit empathy for the stumps by carving faces for what he calls his "Troncomorto" or dead trunk project.
