National Grave Digging Competition held in Hungary

A competition for participants to dig graves was held at a public cemetery in the western city of Szekesfehervar, Hungary on Sept 7, 2019, in order to increase respect and recognition for the gravediggers' craft.
Participants were judged on their speed and given points for style and the look of their finished grave mounds. They had to dig an 80-centimeter wide, 200 cm long and 160 cm deep hole in the ground, then fill the grave with the removed soil in the shortest possible time with shovels, rakes, axes and pickaxes.

One digger said his motivation was "a cash prize, a trophy and glory itself". The winning team shared a cash prize of 50,000 Hungarian forints ($170).
