WASHINGTON - At least eight people were hospitalized and over 50 suffered from respiratory issues after a refrigerant leak in the US state of Massachusetts Thursday, according to local police.
The leak was reported Thursday afternoon at a Market Basket supermarket in the town of Rowley, 50 kilometers north of the city of Boston. Multiple people showed symptoms of coughing or tearing. No one suffered from serious injuries, Rowley Police Department said.
Investigation revealed that the leak came from an ice machine near the supermarket's bakery, the police said.
In a statement released Thursday night, the supermarket said the issue had been fixed and the store is expected to reopen Friday morning.
