Thai premier orders quick arrests of Bangkok bombers

BANGKOK - Thai government spokeswoman Narumon Pinyosinwat said on Monday that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was closel watching the latest investigations into last week's Bangkok bombings and had instructed authorities to arrest the culprits quickly.

Narumon said the prime minister had asked National Police Chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda to gather as much evidences of the masterminds behind the bombings.

Narumon said Prayut had told the police chief to handle the situation with care, professionalism, adhering to the law and regulations and accountability.

"Although the present situations are under control, security is still on high alert. The Prime Minister asked people to watch out for suspects who usually wear caps, masks and sunglasses to cover their identities," said Narumon.

Security officers are still combing through the vicinity of the Government House including the Prem Prachakorn canal to ensure safety.

The bombings took place on Thursday and Friday in Bangkok as Thailand was hosting regional meetings, including the 52nd ASEAN foreign ministers' gathering and related meetings from July 30 to Aug 3. But no one was hurt in the attacks.
