Chinese shares close lower Monday

China's major stock indices closed lower Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 2.58 percent at 2,933.36 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index dropped 2.72 percent to end at 9,186.29 points.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, fell 2.65 percent to 1,506.66 points.
