They used 2,000 kilograms of glutinous rice, 40,000 reed leaves, and 600 kg of orange sauce, resulting in more than 16,400 zongzi. Filling zongzi with orange sauce is a local custom in the county, known for producing naval oranges.
Chinese people eat zongzi as a traditional snack during the Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, a holiday celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month on the Chinese lunar calendar. This year, the festival falls on June 7.
