The three-day seminar attracted more than 200 outstanding young talents from 23 countries and regions such as the United States, Britain, Germany, Australia, Canada, Japan and Singapore, as well as outstanding scholars from China to exchange academic knowledge and seek cooperative development.

Wang Shuguo, president of Xi'an Jiaotong University, said at the seminar that many of today’s new technologies and innovations come from the general society, which is walking ahead of universities. The reason is that the university is divorced from social practice.

"In order to more closely integrate university teaching with scientific research and social practice, Xi'an Jiaotong University founded the China West Region Science and Technology Innovation Park in which more than 100 research institutes will be built to provide a platform for scientific research and development," Wang said.

“The innovation park is open and will be closely linked with society, committed to creating global talent innovation and reaching research heights,” Wang added.

The Silk Road Young Scholars’ Spring Seminar is a grand exchange meeting for promoting personal career development launched by Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2015 for outstanding young scholars all over the world. Since it was launched, more than 1,000 such scholars from home and abroad have been invited to attend the meeting. It has opened a window for exceptional talents to understand China and its west region more deeply, and become a platform for in-depth exchanges.
