The islands house the breeding and research base for the Tongling Freshwater Dolphins National Nature Reserve, with 11 Yangtze finless porpoises living in the fenced-off natural water between the two islands. Tourists at the base can have a close look at the critically endangered species when the breeders are feeding them with fish.
