There is some good news for oculists who help reduce the suffering of their patients: the world's first series of books on eye injuries is now off the shelf. Written by Professor Yan Hua, vice chairman of the Asia-Pacific Ocular Trauma Society, it is published globally by Springer, an internationally renowned publishing company focused on public health.

The series, written in English by experienced medical experts, offers meaningful analysis on eye injuries and specific treatment accordingly, including dissection, medical examination, diagnosis, medication and surgery. It consists of four books: Ocular Trauma Anatomy and Examination, Atlas of Ocular Trauma, Ocular Emergency, and Mechanical Ocular Trauma · Current Consensus and Controversy, and is intended for general practitioners, oculists, researchers and medical students, while it provides comprehensive know-hows to enhance better treatment for patients.

Each year, 55 million people around the globe suffer from eye injuries which are now one of the most critical factors for visual impairment and loss, according to Professor Yan Hua. He also explained the origin of the series, saying that the treatment of ocular traumas is often tricky and elusive, given the many causes and symptoms. Sometimes combined surgeries or multiple surgeries are required. Meanwhile, in the age of precision medicine, there is a growing demand for precise diagnosis and treatment tailored to individual patients. This means that a better understanding of eye injuries and rational use of drugs are essential to the positive outcomes of surgeries and ultimately the wellbeing of patients.
