The 87-episode Chinese period drama Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace concluded Monday, stirring up a wave of discussion on China's social media platforms.

While feeling a sense of regret over the female lead's tragic life inside the walls of the Forbidden City, viewers also talked about the bittersweet romances between the emperor and his second queen Ulanara Ruyi.

Despite being the emperor's most beloved woman, the Manchu lady was forced to struggle for survival amid endless scheming between other concubines as they fight for the emperor's favor.

More than 10 concubines emerged as figures in the drama, forging a complicated interpersonal network. They vary in outlook, personal character and status, but have left deep impressions on TV fans nonetheless.

Here are some stills that have been widely shared on social networks.
