Dali in 1995: A personal 'Heaven on Earth'

From the old city, numerous earthen trails and gravel roads stretched across extensive fertile plains toward lakeshore fishing villages. Following such routes I would stop by concrete-lined irrigation channels to watch villagers walking, carrying farming tools, sometimes leading animals or waiting to be transported by the ubiquitous horse taxis to and from town. I would also be a subject of curiosity for locals, young and old, who were amused at me sitting there pensive with camera in hand.
The lake presented more physical and human scenes that ultimately allowed me to discover a more personal feeling of Shangri-La around Dali.
