YANGON - A northern district court in Myanmar's Yangon on Monday sentenced two Reuter journalists to seven years in prison.

Wa Lone, 32, and Kyaw Soe Oo, 28, were sentenced by the Insein Court for alleged violation of the Official Secrets Act after being held for more than eight months.

The two Reuter reporters were arrested in December last year on charge of obtaining data about Rakhine state and secret documents on security from the police, according to the Home Ministry.

The Foreign Correspondents Club of Myanmar has called for immediate release of the two journalists and review of the case on appeal.
