Moumoon Fullmoon Live Special 2017

Date: Oct 21 - 7:30 pm

Venue: Bandai Namco Shanghai Base Dream Hall

Price: 380-680 yuan

Moumoon is a Japanese pop duo comprising Yuka (vocals) and Kousuke Masaki (guitar). The band's name is a portmanteau of the French word "mou" (soft) and the English "moon". The duo met at a summer rock festival in 2004; after swapping demo tapes, the pair decided to work together professionally. The band self-produced and arrange the vast majority of their songs, with Masaki composing the music while Yuka writes the lyrics. Both band members were brought up on classical music, with Masaki playing piano and Yuka a keen violinist. Their present musical style covers various types of music such as pop, alternative rock, electronica, folk and indie rock. A popular band in their native Japan and elsewhere, many of their songs have received massive amounts of radio airplay, and been used in TV commercials and television soundtracks. They tour regularly (including a sequence of "Fullmoon Live" shows every full moon night), and are best known for their 2015 top-ten single, "Sunshine Girl".

Date: Sept 23 - 7:30 pm

Venue: National Center for the Performing Arts

Price: 80-580 yuan

Moments before Daniil Trifonov performs, profound silence invariably takes possession of his audience. Its intensity depends not on concert hall convention; rather, it arises naturally from the Russian pianist's power to transcend the mundane and communicate music's timeless capacity to bind communities together. The Washington Post wrote of the "visceral experience" of hearing Trifonov's playing; the Sddeutsche Zeitung, meanwhile, described his debut concert at last year's Verbier Festival as "a real culture shock", such was its blend of poetic insight, wit, nuance and inventive brilliance.

Musical West Side Story

Date: Nov 23-Dec 6 - 7:30 pm

Venue: Shanghai Culture Square

Price: 200-1,000 yuan

rovocative finger snapping of street gangs, Puerto Rican girls' whirling skirts on New York City's flat roofs, derelict West Side backyards - just a few notes of Leonard Bernstein's world-famous score, featuring songs such as Maria, Tonight, Somewhere, America and I Feel Pretty, immediately evoke these images of West Side Story. At its 1957 Broadway premiere the musical redefined an entire genre both musically and in terms of dance. The genius of its four creators - Leonard Bernstein, Jerome Robbins, Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim - produced a piece whose great artistic quality remains unquestioned to this day. The film version won ten Oscars and brought the masterwork to an audience of millions just a few years later. Today West Side Story stands unchallenged as the No. 1 of American musical theater - daring, realistic, and as relevant as on the day of its premiere.
