Truth simply cannot be denied

Public discussions about fully and precisely implementing the "One Country, Two Systems" policy have been heating up as people from all walks of life in Hong Kong prepare to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Such discussions are necessary because many local residents have been misled by opposition politicians and their media allies to believe the innovative policy somehow makes Hong Kong an independent or at least semi-independent political entity and therefore off-limits to "intervention" by Beijing.

This kind of misinterpretation of the Basic Law and "One Country, Two Systems" has been driven home by the opposition camp's hysterical objections and protests every time a State leader or the central government dispelled any half-truths or complete lies about the Basic Law and "One Country, Two Systems" in particular over the years. For example after Zhang Dejiang, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC), delivered a very important speech in Macao early last month with some pointed comments about fully and precisely implementing the Basic Law and "One Country, Two Systems", the "pan-democrats" immediately screamed bloody murder as they accused the central authorities of butchering the Basic Law and "One Country, Two Systems".

Obviously the opposition camp, including its media allies and foreign supporters, believe the only way to convince the public that they are right about everything is to tell lies and accuse Beijing of violating the Basic Law and "One Country, Two Systems". To do so they have to twist or even deny the truth and reality, such as Hong Kong's constitutional status and the fact the Central People's Government holds direct and full jurisdiction over the HKSAR. By repeating the same lies over and over the opposition camp hopes to convince people their misinterpretation of the Basic Law is the only correct one, despite the fact that the NPCSC holds the constitutional right to provide ultimate interpretation of the Basic Law. That is why State leaders like Zhang have to reiterate all the truths about the Basic Law and "One Country, Two Systems" from time to time.

Historically Hong Kong has never been an independent or semi-independent political entity, which is why it never will be as long as the sovereign state that is China stands on this planet. The opposition camp and their supporters have been trying to change this fact or at least convince people there is a chance of separating Hong Kong from the country if they are willing to believe all the lies they have been told over the years. It is the responsibility of the SAR government, pro-establishment parties and all patriotic Hong Kong residents to debunk those lies and spread the truth about Hong Kong's constitutional status: Hong Kong is a special administrative region under direct and full jurisdiction of the central government; the high degree of autonomy it enjoys as an SAR is authorized by the central government.
