-- The Marriage Law, the first law of the People's Republic, is enacted. It is the first national law in the history of the "Middle Kingdom" that specifies that women and men enjoy equal rights.

-- Land reform spreads across China.

-- The Chinese army of volunteers cross the Yalu River on Oct 19, 1950, to join the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in fighting the US-led invasion four months after the Korean War broke out. During those four months, the US sent warships into the Taiwan Straits and bombed villages on the China-DPRK border.
