6.1-magnitude quake hits Kyushu, Japan

TOKYO - An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted Kyushu, Japan Saturday night, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake hit at 21:57 local time (1257 GMT). Its epicenter, with a depth of 21.3 km, was initially determined to be at 30.01 degrees north latitude and 131.81 degrees east longitude.

The epicenter of the quake was located 212 km south of Miyazaki, Kyushu and 973 km southwest of Tokyo.

There were no reports of casualties or damage and no tsunami issued.
