TOKYO - An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted near the east coast of Honshu, Japan, at 0629 GMT on Wednesday, the US Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 31.10 km, was initially determined to be at 39.9443 degrees north latitude and 142.0759 degrees east longitude.
