There are 168 million child laborers across the globe, with 45 percent of them working in Asia-Pacific. According to the International Labor Organization, the children are largely employed in the rural and informal economy, in areas where trade unions and employers' organizations are often weak or absent, which means they are usually working under difficult or even dangerous conditions. To highlight their plight and raise awareness, the World Day against Child Labor is marked on June 12.
