Death toll of Russian plane crash reaches 45

MOSCOW - A 10-year-old boy injured in a plane crash in northern Russia has died in a local hospital early Wednesday, the hospital's chief doctor said.

The child's death brings the death toll of the Tu-134 plane accident near the city of Petrozavodsk to 45.

According to the local emergency ministry, Anton Teryokhin died of multiple fractures and injuries. He remained unconscious after being sent to hospital.

The boy's 14-year-old sister was also injured in the crash and taken to Moscow for treatment. His mother died in the crash.

So far, seven people injured in the air accident are still hospitalized. Six of them are in critical condition, Interfax news agency reported.

The Rusair's Tu-134 passenger plane, with 52 people on board, crash- landed in Russia's northern republic of Karelie late Monday.

The fuselage of the jet was fully destroyed and caught fire when it attempted to land on a highway near the airport in heavy fog. Preliminary investigation suggested the plane may hit a power line during its landing.
