LIMA - Leftist former military commander Ollanta Humala won Peru's June 5 presidential election with 51.45 percent of the vote, showed final official results released Wednesday.

The results from the National Office of Electoral Process (ONPE) also showed that Humala's rival Keiko Fujimori gained 48.55 percent of the vote in the presidential run-off.

Humala, the candidate of the Peru Wins alliance, won 447,057 more votes than Fujimori of the Force 2011 party, the ONPE found.

Out of 19.946 million registered voters, 0.706 percent cast blank votes and 5.6 percent nullified their votes, and up to 3.5 million Peruvians did not vote, the ONPE said.

Humala is currently on a tour of Latin America to Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile and is expected to start a second overseas trip later this week to Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela and Bolivia.

Humala will be inaugurated as Peru's new president with a five-year term on July 28, Peru's Independence Day, replacing incumbent President Alan Garcia.
