Hu urges Iran to seize positive factor

ASTANA - President Hu Jintao urged Iran to “seize every positive factor” to push for the process of dialogue to properly settle the Iran nuclear issue.

Hu made the suggestion while addressing a bilateral meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday.

"To properly settle the Iran nuclear issue through dialogue and negotiations is the fundamental way to ensure Iran’s rights of peacefully utilizing nuclear power,” Hu said. “It not only serves the interests of Iran, but also conforms to the peace and stability of the Middle East.”

Hu added the Iranian side should “seize every positive factor that is conducive to push forward dialogue, launch talks with the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany (G5+1) at an early date.”

Hu also urged the Iran to “take concrete steps to establish mutual trust, and facilitate the process of dialogue.”

Ahmadinejad said Iran is willing to settle the Iran nuclear issue through talks and cooperation and is ready to do dialogue with the six countries. He added he is wiling to keep communication with China on the issue, according to a Chinese foreign ministry release. The Iranian president came to Astana to attend the annual meeting which brings together leaders of the Shanghai Organizaiton Cooperation members and observer countries.

China and Iran celebrated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations this year.

"As the current world landscape undergoes profound changes, to consolidate and develop a friendly cooperative relationship between China and Iran, we have to conform to the common interests of the two countries,” Hu said in the bilateral meeting. “It is conducive to world and regional peace and stability”.

Hu urged the two countries to strengthen their communication on world affairs in a bid for regional and world stability.
