ZAMBOANGA CITY - A miner believed to be a Chinese national has been killed while his Filipino companion wounded in an explosion in a mining site in the southern Philippine province of Agusan del Norte, military said Monday.

Maj. Eugene Osias, spokesman of the regional army 4th Division, said the explosion occurred Saturday in the mining valley of Cabadbaran town when workers were rigging one of the mining pits with explosives.

Raw information from police sources showed the dynamite set up in the mining pit accidentally exploded and killed a Chinese miner while a Filipino worker was wounded, said Osias.

He said the names of the victims were not immediately known as the case was being handled by police authorities in the area.
