TRIPOLI - Strong explosions were heard in Libyan capital Tripoli Thursday night, following NATO airstrikes, a Xinhua reporter said.

The airstrikes hit Swani Bin Adam, the southwestern suburb of Tripoli, and the targets cannot be identified now.

The official Libyan TV confirmed that Tripoli suffered air raids from NATO, aiming to "destroy human and material resources of Libya." It added the suburb had been under airstrikes on Wednesday.

The Libyan government said Tuesday as many as 718 civilians were killed since NATO launched airstrikes in mid-March.

The NATO has decided to renew its no-fly zone mission in Libya for another 90 days on Wednesday.
