SEOUL - The Republic of Korea (ROK) government will bolster its manpower to better respond to emergency situations that could arise from cyber attacks, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security said Tuesday.

The ministry said in a press release that the Cabinet had passed a revised bill that allows the placement of 45 officials responsible for computer security and emergency planning at 23 related government offices and agencies.

The move comes as the necessity for government measures against cyber attacks has been raised in the face of a recent string of computer-based attacks in the country.

ROK prosecutors accused the DPRK of launching a cyber attack that brought down the computer system of an agricultural cooperative known as Nonghyup, in April. The DPRK has denied the accusation.
