BEIJING - Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Thursday called for joint efforts to address global challenges that every country faces.

"All the countries need to counter challenges together as the world is experiencing a period of visible development, change and readjustment," Li said as he met with Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Beijing.

The WEF is an important forum for the international community to exchange views on major economic issues, Li said, adding that the deepening cooperation between China and the WEF has helped parties concerned expand consensus and promote common development.

Li said China is implementing its 12th Five-Year Plan, a blueprint for the country's economic and social development in the next five years.

China also strives to strengthen economic sustainability through transformation of development pattern, expansion of domestic demand, economic restructuring, innovation and opening wider to the outside, Li told the visiting WEF leader, adding this will generate more opportunities for the recovery of the world economy and the development of various countries.

Schwab said he appreciates China's support for the WEF and said that the WEF will continue helping to boost China's development with the forum's resources.
