Thaksin's sister to compete for Thai PM

BANGKOK - Yingluck Shinawatra, the youngest sister of deposed former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, was voted to be No 1 on Phue Thai Party list on Monday, which means she will compete for the first female prime minister of the country.

The resolution was made at a meeting of Pheu Thai executives and former MPs on Monday afternoon.

Chalerm Yubamrung, former chairman of Pheu Thai MPs, said he was glad the party had finally voted for Yingluck.

The 44-year-old Yingluck is the youngest child of Shinawatra family. She graduated from Chiang Mai University in 1988 and received master degree of Political Science from US Kentucky State University in 1990.
