Brazilian president says China visit productive

RIO DE JANEIRO - Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff said Monday that her latest visit to China was productive and achieved the desired goals, local press reported.

"We reached our main goals, which were to open the doors for our more sophisticated products to enter China and for working together in important fields such as science and technology," she said.

During the trip on April 11-16, Brazil and China signed a host of government agreements and economic deals covering such areas as science and technology, sports, energy, agriculture, communications and defense.

Several Chinese investment projects in Brazil were announced, Rousseff said, adding that they would not only boost the Brazilian economy, but also bring new technologies to and generate many jobs in the country.

"Since 2004, when (former Brazilian) President Lula first visited China, our relations have evolved a lot," Rousseff said.

China has been Brazil's biggest trade partner since 2009, with bilateral trade exceeding US$ 56 billion in 2010. In that year, China also became Brazil's largest investor and the second largest importer of Brazilian goods.
