BRUSSELS -- The Council of the European Union (EU) adopted additional sanctions against Libya Wednesday.

They include a ban on all flights in Libyan airspace and stronger enforcement of the arms embargo, according to an EU press release.

It also banned Libyan aircraft from EU member states' airspace as well as any aircraft believed to be carrying prohibited items, including armed mercenary personnel.

Under the new decision, the existing visa ban and assets freeze were extended to include more persons.

The assets freeze will now include Libya's National Oil Corporation and its five subsidiaries.
