Magnitude 5.8 quake rocks N. Philippines

MANILA -- A 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Mindoro region in north Philippines at 06:37 p.m. Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

But, the USGS said it was a 5.4 magnitude quake.

The quake, with a depth of 92 km, was 88 km from the country's capital region of Manila. Many residents in Manila felt ground shaking for about a minute.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology ( Phivolcs) Director Renato Solidum said the earthquake occurred at 6:37 p.m., local time, the epicenter was near Lubang Island in northern Philippine province of Mindoro, according to a report filed by local TV station GMA News.

No casualties have reported so far.
