Top DPRK leader attends concert on Lantern Festival

PYONGYANG - Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), attended in Pyongyang on Thursday a concert to celebrate the traditional Lantern Festival of the lunar year of 2011, together with some Chinese guests in Pyongyang.

Kim was accompanied by a number of high-ranking DPRK officials, including Kim Jong Un and Ri Yong Ho, who are both vice chairmen of the the Worker's Party of Korea (WPK) Central Military Commission, and Kim Yong Chun, vice chairman of the National Defense Commission of the DPRK.

The Central Committee of the WPK of the DPRK invited Liu Hongcai, the Chinese ambassador to the DPRK, staff from the Chinese embassy, and some Chinese businessmen and students in the DPRK to enjoy the performance at Mansudae Art Theater.

During the concert, given by Galaxy Troupe Orchestra, young DPRK artists performed some famous Chinese songs and music episodes.

The Lantern Festival is a traditional festival marked by both China and the DPRK.
