Strong earthquake jolts Chile

BEIJING - An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of central Chile at 7:39 am Beijing time on Saturday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10 km, was initially determined to be at 37.2 degrees south latitude and 73.5 degrees west longitude, the center said.

Another strong earthquake measuring 6.9 hit almost the same spot at 4:05 am Beijing time on Saturday. The epicenter, with a depth of 20 km, was initially determined to be at 36.4 degrees south latitude and 73.1 degrees west longitude, the center said.
