MOSCOW - Two Russian strategic TU-95MS bombers had completed a patrol mission over the Norwegian Sea, local media reported on Wednesday.
Citing an Air Force spokesman, the Itar-Tass news agency said the bombers took off from an air base near Saratov on the Volga River and returned 15 hours later.
During the flight, the Russian bombers were refueled in the air by a flying tanker IL-78, and were accompanied by Norwegian and British interceptors F-16, the agency reported.
The spokesman also stressed the Russian strategic air force has conducted regular patrol flights over the Arctic, Atlantic, Pacific and Black Sea for years.
These flights are conducted in concordance with international agreements on airspace status and do not violate the borders of other states, he said.
