Warehouse explodes in Colombian airport

BOGOTA - Colombian authorities reported on Wednesday an explosion in a warehouse of the Villavicencio airport, in the center of the country, leaving several material damages, but no victims, police said.

According to the first police report, apparently a pack coming from Miraflores municipality in Guaviare department exploded.

The airport was closed for several minutes due to the risk of other explosion, the police said.

Agents of the anti-explosive police cordoned off the airport and began an investigation to determine which kind of explosive was used in the attack.

The explosion occurred in the warehouse of the airport leaving some damages but no victims.

The police also said that for security reasons one plane leaving for Villavicencio airport had to return to Bogota, from which it had departed.

Also many airlines suspended their flights from Villavicencio to other regions.

Carlos Andres Caramno, an airline worker said: "I was working when the pack exploded. The explosion occurred outside the warehouse and there was a co-worker with the door closed."
