The exercise is also certain to be futile as political parties have not reached a consensus.

Nepali Congress (NC) candidate Ram Chandra Paudel is the sole candidate for the post, but he failed to gain a majority in previous NC lawmakers votings.

Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and the Communist Party Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist are not participating in the voting process.

As per the parliamentary regulations, the elections will continue until a candidate secures a simple majority (301) of the votes in the 601-member parliament.
