Turkish police arrest 5 al Qaeda suspects

ISTANBUL - Turkish police have detained five men suspected of having ties to a group fighting with the al Qaeda network in Afghanistan, a security official in the southwest city of Izmir told Reuters on Friday.

The five were taken to court after being arrested two days earlier.

One of the men, according to an unsourced report by state-run Anatolian news agency, is a mathametician who was designing computer programmes aimed at interfering with the flight controls of unmanned drone aircraft.
