Ecuador's police commander steps down after unrest

QUITO - Ecuador's police commander has resigned after the unrest triggered by some policemen against the country's president, a police spokesman said on early Friday.

Meanwhile, Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, who was rescued by government troops loyal to him, said the rebel police planned to kill him when he was stranded in a hospital during the unrest.
