KABUL - Nine troops from the NATO-led force fighting in Afghanistan were killed when a helicopter crashed in the south of the country, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement on Tuesday.

The deaths take the toll so far in 2010 to at least 529, according to monitoring website iCasualties.org, making it the deadliest year of the nine-year war. ISAF said there was no enemy fire in the area when the aircraft crashed.
