Rains in Denmark to impair harvest this year

COPENHAGEN -- Continuous heavy rains might lead to crop failure this year, Danish agriculture authorities said Monday.

Knowledge Center for Agriculture in Denmark estimated that Danish farmers will suffer losses more than 2,000 DKK (339 U.S. dollars) per hectare due to continuous rainstorms. In some areas, farmers are not able to reap the crops because of the bad weather.

A new round of rainstorms will hit Denmark, the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) forecast on Monday.
The storms since August 14 has flooded many bridges, motorways and houses,with rain pounding down at the rate up to 100 mm in few hours in some places.

The Berlingske Tidende newspaper reported on Monday that although the change of wind direction Thursday has relieved the heavy rain since August  14, low pressure will bring them back again.

The storm started in South Jutland on Monday morning and then spread through the whole country in the afternoon. The DMI data showed that the rainfall reached 25 to 50 mm on Monday, which is almost the same as that of last week.
