Mastermind of Moscow metro attacks killed in Dagestan

MOSCOW - Magomedali Vagabov, who is believed to have masterminded the bombings at two stations of the Moscow metro on March 29, 2010, has been killed in an operation in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, local media reported on Saturday, citing a statement made by the National Antiterrorist Committee.

Vagabov was killed in an operation by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) in the Dagestani village of Gunib, a local police source told RIA Novosti news agency.

"Vagabov's gang is responsible for numerous terrorist attacks in Dagestan and other regions around... Vagabov masterminded the bombings in the Moscow Metro committed by female suicide bombers, which killed dozens of people. A number of railroad bombings were committed, and members of local authorities and policemen were gunned down by Vagabov's orders," the statement obtained by the Interfax news agency said.
