Chavez made the announcement when he met with Nestor Kirchner, secretary-general of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur), who arrived here on Thursday to mediate the Venezuela-Colombia row.

He will go to Colombia Friday for a meeting with outgoing Colombian President Alvaro Uribe and President-elect Juan Manuel Santos, who will take office on Saturday.

On July 22, Chavez broke off ties with Colombia after Bogota accused Caracas of harboring Colombian guerilla chiefs in its territory. Security has been beefed up on both sides of the Venezuela-Colombia border.
