6.0-magnitude earthquake hits Kuril islands

WASHINGTON - An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale jolted east of the Kuril islands, the US Geological Survey said on Wednesday.

The quake, which occurred at 2348 GMT, was centered 425 km northeast of Kuril'sk at a depth of 33.6 km, the USGS said.

No injuries or damage have been reported so far.
