BOGOTA -- The Colombian authorities on Sunday discovered a plan of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) to carry out an attack on the day before the inauguration of President-elect Juan Manuel Santos on August 7.

General Luis Gilberto Ramirez, director of the Judicial Police, said that four weapons traffickers were captured and fusils and explosives were seized.

Ramirez said the police knew "for sure that the attack would be carried out in Bogota."

In another development, FARC guerrillas were blamed for shooting to death three off-duty soldiers in a club on Sunday in Chaparral, some 400 km south of Bogota.

FARC rebels also detonated two bombs early Sunday in Chaparral but caused no damage, spokesman of governor of Tolima province Oscar Barreto said.
