DPRK calls for celebration of ruling party's anniversary

PYONGYANG - Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), called upon the army and people of the DPRK to celebrate the upcoming 65th anniversary of the founding of the Workers'Party of Korea (WPK), an official newspaper reported on Sunday.

According to the Rodong Sinmun, Kim, general secretary of the WPK and chairman of the National Defence Commission, paid an inspection visit to light industrial establishments in Kanggye City and Huichon Youth Electrical Complex.

He praised their feat as providing an excellent gift to the 65th anniversary of the founding of the WPK.

The work made by the Huichon Youth Electrical Complex was a manifestation of the inexhaustible mental power of the Korean people, Kim said. He also expressed great expectation and conviction that the people of DPRK would creditably play the role of a pioneer in the dynamic drive for building a thriving nation.

The WPK was founded on October 10, 1945.
