63 terrorists killed in S Afghanistan

KABUL - A cleanup operation in Deshoo district of southern Helmand province left 63 terrorists dead, a statement of the Interior Ministry released on Sunday said.

"A cleanup operation launched in Deshoo district two days ago with the involvement of Afghan and NATO-led troops had claimed the lives of 63 terrorists," the statement added.

Ten more terrorists had been arrested during the operation, it said.

More than 16 tons of narcotics including hashish and opium had been seized from the terrorists during the two day operation, the statement added. Two heroin labs were destroyed during the operation.

However, it did not say if any ranking Taliban commander was arrested.

Taliban militants have yet to make comment.
