S. Korean students lack understanding of Korean War

SEOUL - A number of university students were ignorant of in what year the Korean War broke out, showed a recent survey conducted by South Korea's online career portal Incruit.

According to the survey results unveiled Thursday, among the 435 respondents, 7.4 percent, or 32 students, said they didn't know when the war erupted.

Asked which country was responsible for the war, 67.8 percent blamed the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), followed by 15.9 percent for both the United States and the Soviet Union, 2. 8 percent for both Koreas, and 0.9 percent for South Korea.

With regard to the prospect of reunification, 60.5 percent responded that the likelihood is less than 30 percent while 13.8 percent answered the likelihood is over 70 percent.

Friday marks the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War which ended in 1953 with a truce rather than a peace treaty.
