"ISAF has confirmed a Haqqani network commander, Fazil Subhan, known to facilitate foreign fighters, was killed along with multiple insurgents by Afghan and international forces in a two-day offensive in Khost province last week," the press release added.

However, it did not give the exact figure of those suspected insurgents killed in the operation.

Haqani network is the military wing of Taliban fighters headed by Mawlawi Jalaludin Haqani, which has been involved in carrying out suicide attacks, roadside bombings and laying ambushes on security forces.

Taliban militants have yet to make comment.
