MOSCOW - Two police officers were killed and another one injured in an attack in Russia's North Caucasian republic of Dagestan on Sunday, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.

The attack happened at about 00:30 am Moscow time (2030 GMT Saturday) on an entry post of road police in the Derbent city.

"Unknown gunmen opened fire on the southern post of Derbent's traffic police, and then run away from the scene," the press service of the Dagestani Interior Ministry said.

The wounded policeman has been hospitalized.
